NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2024 – Increased vehicle river crossings and a growing use of public transportation were among the highlights of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s (NYMTC) Travel Patterns Fourth Quarter 2023 report, released today. Created annually and each quarter year since 2002, the Travel Patterns Reports measure ridership on buses, rails, subways, and ferries along with the vehicular traffic crossing the area's waterway bridges and tunnels in New York City, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and Northern New Jersey.

Graduate Students Sought for NYMTC’s September 11th Memorial Scholarship Program   NEW YORK, June 25, 2024 - Applications for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s (NYMTC) September 11th Memorial Program are now open. The program, created to educate and motivate innovation in transportation and technology, asks students to commit 12 months of time outside the classroom to conduct advanced transportation research and planning projects under the guidance of a mentor from NYMTC or a NYMTC member agency.

The meeting was held at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in Manhattan and was open to the public.

NYMTC’s Community Visioning Workshops Seek Public Input on the Palisades Shared Use Path Study  NEW YORK, February 13, 2024 – The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) will host a series of three virtual Community Visioning Workshops to discuss its Palisades Shared Use Path Study, a project to determine the feasibility of creating a shared use path between the George Washington and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridges. The workshops are open to the public and will be held Tuesday, March 5th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm; Wednesday, March 13th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, and Wednesday, March 20th from 12:00 – 1:30 pm.

NYMTC Releases Its Draft Unified Planning Work Program NEW YORK, January 9, 2024 – The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) announced that it has released a draft of its annual Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for State Fiscal Year 2024-2025. The UPWP identifies the transportation planning activities that are proposed for federal and other funding from April 1, 2024, through March 30, 2025.

NEW YORK,  January 8, 2024 – The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) reported today that 12 municipalities and transportation agencies in the NYMTC planning area were awarded grants from the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) “Safe Streets For All” (SS4A) program. The SS4A grants are awarded directly to regional, local, and Tribal communities for implementation, planning, and demonstration projects that improve safety and help prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.

NEW YORK, July 1, 2024 – Adjustments to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s (NYMTC) 2055 Socioeconomic and Demographic (SED) Forecasts - which project changes in population, employment, the labor force, and households in 31 counties in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, and Connecticut - show an increase in employment and population forecasts compared to previous SED Forecasts adopted in 2020. The forecasts, which represent the consensus projections of NYMTC’s member agencies, are used to develop future estimates of transportation demand for NYMTC’s required long-range transportation plan and regional emissions analysis that establish the region’s eligibility for federal transportation funding.
