The survey data collected is used to update NYMTC’s travel demand model, the New York Best Practice Model (NYBPM), and support NYMTC’s planning activities. The objective of the project was to collect raw travel speed and travel time data along 129 routes spread over 10 NYMTC counties.
Data collection utilized Global Positioning System (GPS) loggers as well as stopwatches and clipboards for data collection in Manhattan where street canyons can interfere with GPS operation.
Released in April 2012, data collection occurred during 2011.
